Larry Doby makes his first start as a major league player

On July 6, 1947, Larry Doby makes his first start as a major league player. Doby, the first black player in the history of the American League, plays all nine innings at first base in the Cleveland Indians’ 6-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Doby will bat .326 in 1950, and will lead the AL in home runs in 1952 and ’54.
