Lee Lacy was a utility man for years before getting steady outfield play. A dependable pinch-hitter, Lacy hit five pinch home runs in 1978, including a ML record-tying three in a row. The free swinger was a fair number-two batter with his speed and hitting prowess. He was briefly the starting second baseman of the 1973 Dodgers until Davey Lopes took over. Full-time duty seemed to beckon in 1976, after a trade to Atlanta, but Lacy was dealt back to Los Angeles in June. He went to Pittsburgh as a free agent in 1979. The righthander batted .304 in six seasons with Pirates, with extensive playing time from 1982 to 1984. The final year included a NL-high .996 fielding percentage in the outfield. Defensively, his speed and strong arm were his best assets.
