May 31, 1938 – At Yankee Stadium Lou Gehrig plays in his 2,000th consecutive game, collecting an RBI single in the Yankees’ 12-5 victory over Boston. The 34 year-old first baseman will play in another 130 straight games before amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) shortens his Hall of Fame career.
