On April 1, 1969, After acquiring little known Lou Piniella from the Cleveland Indians in the expansion draft, the Seattle Pilots trade him to the Royals in exchange for Steve Whitaker and John Gelna. The 25 year-old outfielder will have a stellar season in Kansas City, hit .282 with 11 home runs and 68 RBIs and will be named the league’s Rookie of the Year.
