On October 11, 1959 — At Syracuse’s MacArthur Stadium, middleweight champion Carmen Basilio umpires an exhibition game between Mickey Mantle’s AL All-Stars and Willie Mays’ NL All-Star barnstorming squads. The contest, which costs only $2.50 to attend, features a home run hitting contest between Braves slugger Hank Aaron and Indians right fielder Rocky Colavito, who led the American League in home runs this season.
