Milwaukee’s Bill Travers allows 14 runs It will be 21 years before another pitcher allows 14 runs

On August 14, 1977 –At Cleveland Stadium After taking the opener, 12 – 5, the Indians light up Milwaukee’s Bill Travers for 18 hits and 14 runs to win, 14 – 5. It will be 21 years before another pitcher – Mike Oquist on August 3, 1998 versus the Yankees – allows 14 runs.

All but 2 Indian starters had 2 or more hits, Charlie Spikes went 0-4 and Ray Fosse had 1 hit, but added 2 RBI’s and Spikes scored a run. Andre Thorton drove in 4 runs and hit his 20th homerun. Neither team was effected in their pennant pursuit, they had 52 and 53 wins at this point in the season.
