New York Giants debut new purple plaid uniforms

On April 12, 1916 — The Giants start the season on the road with a 5-4 loss to Philadelphia at the Baker Bowl. The game marks the debut of New York’s new purple plaid uniforms, fortunately, a trend that will last only a year.

Pete Alexander starts for the Phillies and goes the distance. He will go on to win 33 games for the Phillies, and win the triple crown with a 1.55 ERA and167 KO,
