On October 15, 1981 At Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, 47,302 fans came to see the A’s, take on the Yankees in the ALCS, it is the first time the A’s will have a home ALCS game since 1975. Down 2-0 coming in they faced a tall task.

Facing 1981 Rookie of The Year Dave Righetti. Righetti combined with Ron Davis and Goose Gossage fire a 4 – 0 shutout to give the New York Yankees their 33rd American League pennant.

Future Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson stole 2 bases for the A’s but the A’s could not get him to third either time. The A’s never got a runner to third the entire game. Matt Keough the A’s starter danced in trouble and gave up a 6th inning HR to Willie Randolph. In true billy Martin fashion Keough pitched 8.1 and left with the score 1-0 with 2 men on. tom Underwood however will get rocked giving up 3 straight hits and a lineout.

He is spared when Jerry Mumphrey gets thrown out at home for the second out, but Graig Nettles laces a bases clearing double to put the Yankees up 4-0.
