On October 14, 1896, Oscar Charleston, one of the greatest players in Negro leagues history, was born in Indianapolis. Charleston hit for both average and power while revolutionizing defensive play in center field. His blazing speed and aggressiveness on the base paths led some to compare him to Ty Cobb.
