Paul Molitor leads Brewers past Yankees in game 4 ALDS
October 9, 1981 – At Yankee Stadium, the Milwaukee Brewers‚ also facing elimination down 2-0‚ were tied 3-3 in the 8th inning and took the lead on a Paul Molitor’s solo home run off Tommy John was just beyond the incredible leaping attempt of Yankees leftfielder Dave Winfield, . Ted Simmons who had clubed a 2-run homer earlier, doubles home Robin Yount later in the inning and Randy Lerch pitches 6 solid innings for the win.
It was their first post season victory since the franchise moved from Seattle to Milwaukee 12 years earlier.
There were real fireworks in the 7th, with the Yankees up 1-0, Cecil Cooper lead off the 7th with a single and then, 3B umpire Mike Reilly was tackled by a Yankees fan before Graig Nettles pulled the man off Reilly; HP umpire Ken Kaiser, a former professional
wrestler, also came to Reilly’s aid; the fan was taken away by security guards and arrested by the NY Police. Simmons swatted his homerun on the next pitch.
