Philadelphia Athletics are expelled for violating the league’s constitution

On November 22, 1890 – At the American Association annual meeting in Louisville, the Philadelphia Athletics who lost the last 22 games of the season, are expelled for violating the league’s constitution. The Quakers, a team which had played the 1890 season in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ in the defunct Players’ League, replaces the ousted financially-strapped franchise, plus entries from Boston, Washington and Chicago, replacing Syracuse, Toledo and Rochester.

Major League Baseball celebrates military appreciation day by staging a game in Fort Bragg, NC, the nation’s largest military base. The Marlins defeat the Braves, 5 – 2 in a temporary 12,500 seat ballpark with no paid admission, as all spectators are active military members and their families. It’s the first major league game ever played in the state of North Carolina.
