Phillies Fans give it to Bonds

On May 7, 2006, When Barry Bonds takes his position in left field, the Phillies fans in the stands behind him unfurl a section-long banner which leaves no doubt about their sentiments concerning the Giants outfielder’s pursuit of the Babe. The message displayed briefly during the first inning informs the unpopular superstar “Ruth did it on hot dogs & Beer – Aaron did it with class”.

The selection of Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., and Sammy Sosa as starters in the NL All-Stars lineup marks the first time in baseball history in which three players with 500 career home runs have appeared on the same team. The trio will appear in the starting outfield in the 75th All-Star Game in Houston’s Minute Maid Park.
