Phillies release Lefty

June 24, 1986 the Philadelphia Phillies release future hall of famer and the best pitcher in team history Steve Lefty Carlton.

over 15 seasons Carlton won 261 games and 4 Cy Young’s, Carlton also pitched the Phillies to there first World Series Title in 1980.

The 41-year-old left-hander will sign the San Francisco Giants, marking the start of a journeyman three-year period in which Carlton will pitch for four different teams

The Phillies call up Bruce Ruffin to take his place in the starting rotation.
