Pokey Reese at his peak was one of the game’s top defenders. Unfortunately his peak was relatively short lived. Reese batted .219 with 25 steals in his rookie season in 1997. His 1998 season was injury shortened

1999 was clearly his best season. He had good offensive numbers, batting .285/.330/.417 with 10 hr 52 rbi and 38 steals. In addition he had a single season defensive WAR that was tied for 5th best in Reds history. In 2000 he batted .255 with a career high 12 home runs along with 29 steals. In 2001 he had his worst year since his rookie year batting .224 with 9 homers and 25 steals.

After the Reds he played on the Pirates for 2 years then joined the Red Sox in 2004. His final major league game was clinching a World Series championship.
