Red Ruffing fires a 10 inning shutout and wins the game on extra inning Homerun

On August 13, 1932 ā€” After blanking Washington for nine innings in a scoreless tie, Red Ruffing hits a solo home run in the top of the tenth. The right-hander then closes out the Senators in the bottom of the frame to preserve the Yankeesā€™ 1-0 victory. Ruffingā€™s home run comes off Al Thomas the hard luck loser. Tom Hughes, in 1906, was the last major-league pitcher to hit an extra-inning, game-winning home run.
