On July 6, 1909, Red Sox rookie Larry Pape makes his debut with a 2 – 0 win over the Nationals.

It was a crisp 1 hour 14 minute nine-inning game, the second of a doubleheader in Boston. He set down 15 Senators in a row and struck out seven, walked one, scattered four hits, and shut out the Senators, 2-0. He singled (off right-hander Bob Groom) in three at-bats and the report in the Globe commented that he “handled himself like a veteran and fielded finely as well.”
