august 8, 1968  In a true pitcher’s duel, Philadelphia’s Rick Wise and Bill Singer of Los Angeles traded complete games.

A solo home run to lead off the ninth inning by Richie Allen was the difference in the Phillies’ 1-0 victory at Dodger Stadium.

Wise (8-8) was masterful in twirling a one-hitter. He set the Dodgers down in order seven times.

Bart Shirley’s infield single in the third was only hit Wise surrendered. It was also the only inning the Dodgers mounted a serious threat. A two-out walk to Willie Crawford _ one of two free passes yielded by Wise _ made Shirley the only Dodger to reach second. Jim Fairey grounded to Tony Taylor to end the threat.

Singer (9-11) scattered five hits and three walks. He pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the second when Wise flied out.

It took two hours and 26 minutes to complete this gem.
