March 6, 1965 – Roberto Clemente’s mother visits her son in the hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as he recovers from a bout with malaria. He will miss a full month of training camp with the disease, which he contracted during the off-season. Clemente will recover to bat .329 in the season but will hit only 10 home runs with 65 RBI.
