Ron Santo is born in Seattle, WA.

On February 25, 1940 — Ron Santo is born in Seattle, WA. He will be one of the greatest third basemen in history, playing 14 of his 15 major league seasons with the Chicago Cubs and hitting 342 home runs. He will be elected to the Hall of Fame in 2011, barely a year after his death from diabetes.

He was a 9X All-Star and won 5 Gold Glove Awards. He also led the NL in BB 4X and OBP twice. His uniform #10 is retired by the Chicago Cubs. After his career, be was a long-term, popular broadcaster for the Cubs. Ron was elected to the Hall of Fame (by the Golden Era Committee) in 2012.

 

In his 15-year career (1960-1974), Santo had 2,254 hits, 342 HR, 1,331 RBI, 1,108 BB, .277 BA, .362 OBP, .464 Slg., & .826 OPS.

 

Ron passed away in 2010 at the age of 70 (from complications with bladder cancer and diabetes).
