Both Philadelphia runs were scored on homers by Gene Freese and Wally Post. Eddie Matthews, Hank Aaron and Lee May paced the offense with 2 hits each and Matthews scores the go ahead run in the bottom of the 8th.

With Spahn’s 21st win. He passes Eppa Rixey as the winningest lefty in National League history.

The Braves remained tied with the Dodgers for the NL lead.
