On February 22, 1938, the St. Louis Cardinals sign Washington Redskins star quarterback Sammy Baugh to a contract.
Baugh played at Texas Christian University and he was an All-American football star and the future quarterback of the Washington Redskins he was projected as a shortstop. He will start off with the Cards in spring training, but be assigned first to Columbus and then Rochester. He will never appear in a major league game.
Baugh will go onto a Hall of Fame career playing for the Washington Redskins.
