1935 – Lou Gehrig signs a contract with the New York Yankees for $30,000, $7,000 less than he asked for, but still making him the highest-paid player. The 32-year old first baseman will hit .329 and 30 home runs driving in 119 runs for the second-place Yankees.
1935 – Signing a contact written in French, Washington Senators outfielder Gus Dugas, who was born in Quebec, is acquired by the Montreal Royals of the International League.
1935 – Demanding a yearly salary of $25,000, future Hall of Fame pitcher Dizzy Dean becomes a holdout. The St. Louis Cardinals’ right-handed ace will sign for $19,500 the following day.
1935 – At 39 years of age, home run king Babe Ruth is released by the New York Yankees. He will sign with the Boston Braves to play one more season, but will not complete it.
1935 – The Washington Senators receive pitcher Bump Hadley from the St. Louis Browns in a trade for catcher Luke Sewell, who is passed on to the Chicago White Sox.
