With the Amazins’ trailing by 13 runs and down to their last out with no one on base, the rallying cry begins to be chanted by some of the ‘New Breed,’ the affectionate name given the fans of the National League expansion team.

1963 – Hall of Fame umpire Tom Connolly dies in Natick, Massachusetts, at the age of 90. Connolly served as an umpire for 34 years, working in both the American and National Leagues. Connolly once went 10 consecutive seasons without ejecting a player from a game.

Conley, now with the Knicks as a power guard, is the only person to have played on World Championship teams in baseball (1957 Braves) and basketball (1959–61, Celtics), and DeBusschere, currently employed by the Pistons, will be inducted as player into the basketball Hall of Fame in 1983.
