San Francisco’s Billy O’Dell is thumbed as he makes warm-up tosses after arriving from the bullpen. An angry Gaylord Perry grabs Fox’s bat when it’s all over and smashes it to pieces before handing it to the batboy.
Vic Power of the Angels is fined $250 and suspended 10 days for spitting on umpire Jim Honochick after a close play during a doubleheader loss to the White Sox, 7 – 4 and 6 – 1, the previous day.
On July 10, 1964, Jesus Alou of the San Francisco Giants collects six hits against six different pitchers in a 10-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs. Alou becomes the first Giant to enjoy a six-hit game in nearly 40 years.
