On May 8, 1984, Kirby Puckett collects four singles in his major league debut. Puckett’s performance helps the Minnesota Twins to a 5-0 win over the California Angels.
Tonight’s game between the White Sox and the Brewers is suspended after 17 innings because of a curfew with the score tied, 3 – 3. It will resume tomorrow and will not find a winner until the 25th inning.
1984 – Astros club 19-year-old phenom Dwight Gooden with eight runs in the third on their way to a 10-1 drubbing of the Mets. Nolan Ryan, almost twice Gooden’s age, scatters six hits for the victory.
