1995 – The Braves win their first World Series since moving to Atlanta with a 1 – 0 shutout of Cleveland in Game 6. Pitchers Tom Glavine and Mark Wohlers combine on a one-hitter and David Justice hits a home run in the 6th inning for the only run. Jim Poole is the losing pitcher.
The ceremonial first pitch prior to Game 5 of the World Series is thrown by Commander Ken Bowersox, who is onboard the space shuttle Columbia. The ceremony, transmitted from space via satellite and shown to the Indians and Braves fans at Jacobs Field, continues with an animation sequence on the scoreboard that ends with a ball that appears to fly in and land in center field.
1995 – In the World Series, pitcher Orel Hershiser allows just two runs over eight innings and reliever Jose Mesa survives a two-run home run by Ryan Klesko in the 9th inning to give the Indians a 5 – 4 win over the Braves in Game 5.
1995 – Atlanta Braves pitcher Steve Avery throws six innings of three-hit baseball and reliever Pedro Borbón, Jr. comes out of the bullpen for his first appearance in 19 days to save a 5 – 2 victory over the Cleveland Indians in Game 4 of the World Series.
1995 – Eddie Murray singles home pinch-runner Alvaro Espinoza in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Cleveland Indians their first win in a World Series game in 47 years. The Tribe’s 7 – 6 victory over the Atlanta Braves fittingly occurs in the first-ever Series game at Jacobs Field.
1995 – Amid rumors that the Astros will be sold and moved to Virginia, General Manager Bob Watson resigns and takes the same position with the New York Yankees. His short tenure in Houston breaks the color bar for blacks in the General Manager ranks but in New York he gets the World’s Championship ring that he long coveted.
Former Astros GM Bob Watson is named as the Yankees’ new general manager, replacing Gene Michael. Watson, upset with the chain of command within the organization, will stay in the position for just two seasons, but under his watch the team will win its first World Series since 1978, establishing the groundwork for the very successful Bronx Bomber clubs of the late 1990’s.
1995 – The Atlanta Braves take a 2 – 0 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the World Series behind the pitching of Tom Glavine. His batterymate, Javy López, decides the game with a two-run home run in the 6th inning off Dennis Martinez. Atlanta leads the Series, 2-0.

Fred McGriff homers for Atlanta, while Kenny Lofton of Cleveland becomes the first player since 1921 to steal two bases in one inning of a Series game. The two teams combine for only five hits, tying a World Series record for fewest hits by both clubs.
