Michael McKenry breaks Aroldis Chapman’s club-record streak of 24 straight scoreless appearances from the start of the season when he drives in a run with a 10th-inning double against the Cincinnati Reds’ fireballer. Chapman had pitched 29 innings without allowing a run before the Pirates’ back-up catcher gets to him, and he is charged with the 5 – 4 loss. Chapman hadn’t even allowed a hit since May 17th before Clint Barmes and McKenry hit the back-to-back doubles.

2012 – The Orioles retake sole possession of first place in the AL East with a 2 – 1 win over Boston. Wei-Yin Chen is the winner over Josh Beckett and Jim Johnson picks up his 18th save.

Ian Desmond drives in the tying run in the 8th, then does it again in the 10th and once more in the 12th for good measure, as his Nationals finally beat the Mets, 7 – 6. The Elias Sports Bureau reports he is the first player since Art Shamsky (1966) to have three game-tying or go-ahead RBI from the 8th inning on in the same game.

Ryan Dempster wins his first game since August 16th of last year, a streak of 18 winless starts, as the struggling Cubs defeat the Brewers, 10 – 0. Dempster retires the first 15 batters of the game and leaves after having given up 3 hits over 7 innings. The Cubs had lost their last 11 road games before the win.

On the 11th anniversary of being drafted by the Mets, David Wright becomes the franchise’s all-time run scorer when he crosses the plate for the 736th time after homering in the team’s 7-6 loss in Washington. New York’s 29 year-old third baseman is already the franchise career leader in doubles, total bases, RBIs, and extra-base hits.

Rookie Jarrod Parker keeps the powerful Rangers line-up hitless for 7 innings on his way to a 12 – 1 win by the Athletics. Michael Young ends Parker’s bid for a no-hitter with a leadoff single in the 8th; Parker only needs two more pitches to get out of the inning, on a pop-up and a double play grounder, then leaves the game. For Texas, OF Craig Gentry is pressed into mound service in the 8th, to give his team’s tired bullpen a breather.

17-year-old shortstop Carlos Correa is the top selection of the 2012 amateur draft, by the Houston Astros. Correa is the first player from Puerto Rico to be taken first overall. The Twins follow by selecting high school outfielder Byron Buxton. But it’s White Sox pick Courtney Hawkins, drafted 13th, who steals the show by performing a backflip on the set of the MLB Network studio to celebrate his selection.
