With a hit in both games, including a homer in the nitecap, Pablo Sandoval has now hit in all 16 games the Giants have played thus far, tying a franchise record held by Willie Mays.

The Blue Jays complete a four-game sweep of the Royals at Kauffman Stadium with a 4 – 1 win, powered by Jose Bautista’s two-run homer. The Royals have now lost 11 straight, and all 10 of their home dates so far this season. It is the first time the Jays sweep a four-game series on the road since a visit to Yankee Stadium back in 2003.

The Rangers edge the Tigers, 3 – 2, on a controversial squeeze bunt in the 11th inning. The bases are loaded with no one out when Alberto Gonzalez squares up and lays the ball down right in front of him; it bounces and glances off his right knee, but the umpires miss it and the play is allowed to stand in spite of Detroit manager Jim Leyland’s protests. After the game, home plate umpire Tim Welke will admit he missed the call and should have declared the play a foul ball. Thad Weber is charged with the loss in his major league debut as a result.

Jordan Schafer hits his first career grand slam off the Dodgers’ Chad Billingsley, who had already given up a two-run shot to Carlos Lee in the 1st. Staked to this comfortable early lead, Wandy Rodriguez cruises to a 12 – 0 win for the Astros, allowing only 3 hits in 7 innings.

Colby Rasmus hits a pair of homers to help Drew Hutchison register a 9 – 5 win for the Blue Jays in his major league debut against the Royals. For Kansas City, it is a 9th straight loss.

Phillip Humber’s first major league complete game is baseball’s twenty-first perfect game when he retires all 27 Mariners he faces in the White Sox’ 4-0 victory at Safeco Field. The 29 year-old right-hander, who had Tommy John surgery in 2005, is the third Pale Hose pitcher to accomplish perfection, joining Mark Buehrle (2009 vs Tampa Bay) and Charles Robertson (1932 vs Detroit).

With no sense of history, the Red Sox continue to have a highly embarassing week while celebrating Fenway Park’s centenary. Today, they take a 9 – 0 lead over the Yankees, only to collapse totally, coughing up 15 unanswered runs to lose the game. 14 of the runs come courtesy of a bullpen that has been horrendous since the season started. With his team trailing 9 – 1 in the 7th, Nick Swisher gets the Bronx Bombers rolling with a grand slam off Vicente Padilla; Mark Teixeira adds a three-run shot before the inning ends. But that only serves to set up a nightmarish 8th inning, during which three other relievers give up 7 more runs as manager Bobby Valentine is booed heartily every time he comes out of the dugout to make a pitching change. With two-thirds of their starting outfield on the disabled list, the reeling Sox make a trade after the game, acquiring CF Marlon Byrd from the Cubs in return for P Michael Bowden and a player to be named later.
