2013 – St. Louis evens the World Series with a Game 2 win over the Red Sox, 4 – 2, at Fenway Park, behind outstanding rookie P Michael Wacha. Trailing 2 – 1 after 6 innings, after to a two-run homer by David Ortiz, St. Louis scores two runs in the 7th on a sacrifice fly combined with a pair of errors, and add a third run on Carlos Beltran’s single later in the inning. Boston had won 9 straight World Series game before tonight’s loss.

2013 – The Red Sox jump on the Cardinals early, scoring five runs in the first two innings, to cruise to an 8 – 1 win in Game 1 of the World Series. Mike Napoli hits a bases-clearing double in the 1st and the Sox add two more runs in the 2nd in spite of Carlos Beltran robbing David Ortiz of a grand slam with a great catch. Jon Lester pitches 7 1/3 scoreless innings for the win while Adam Wainwright takes the loss.

2013 – The Reds name pitching coach Bryan Price to succeed Dusty Baker as the team’s manager.

Tim Lincecum agrees to a two-year $35 million deal to stay with the Giants. The 29 year-old fan favorite, a two-time Cy Young winner who pitched a no-hitter this year, has a 4.76 ERA over his last two seasons with San Francisco.

2013 – Two days after losing the 2013 ALCS, Tigers manager Jim Leyland announces he is retiring after a 22-year career as a big league skipper.

2013 – For the second time in the series, Boston uses a late-game grand slam to defeat the Tigers in the ALCS. Shane Victorino’s 7th-inning blast over the Green Monster off Jose Veras is key to a 5 – 2 win that sends the Red Sox to the World Series. Koji Uehara picks up his third save in addition to a win to receive the series’ MVP honors.

2013 – The Cardinals are headed to the World Series after crushing the Dodgers, 9 – 0, in Game 6 of the NLCS. Michael Wacha defeats Clayton Kershaw for the second time, winning the NLCS MVP Award.

2013 – The Red Sox defeat the Tigers, 4 – 3, in Game 5 of the ALCS. The Sox take an early 4 – 0 lead, but Jon Lester begins tiring in the 5th, when he gives up a first run. The Bengals add runs in the next two innings, but can’t tie the game as Koji Uehara records a five-out save.

The Dodgers stay alive with a 6 – 4 win over the Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLCS. Adrian Gonzalez homers twice and Carl Crawford and A.J. Ellis once each as Zack Greinke prevails over Joe Kelly.

The Tigers shuffle their line-up before Game 4 of the ALCS, and it pays off as they defeat the Red Sox, 7 – 3, to even the series. Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera, moved up to the first two spots of the batting order, drive in two runs each as Doug Fister earns the win with 6 strong innings on the mound.
