Brewers slugger Ryan Braun is greeted by boos in his first appearance in Philadelphia since serving a 65-game suspension for PED use, but he gets his revenge by hitting his first three homers of the year to lead his team to a 10 – 4 win. His first long ball, off Kyle Kendrick in the 3rd, is Braun’s first since May 22, 2013, ending the longest drought of his career, while his 7 RBIs tie a team record. He also makes a great catch in right field, robbing the Phillies of two runs when he snags Carlos Ruiz’s sinking line drive to end the 2nd inning.

The White Sox explode for 6 home runs, including the first two of Cuban defector Jose Abreu’s career, as they defeat Colorado, 15 – 3, in a game typical of Coors Field. Avisail Garciaalso hits two homers, and Tyler Flowers and Alexei Ramirez each go deep once as the White Sox score 11 times over the last three innings to break open what was a close game until then.

Matt Kemp and Hanley Ramirez both hit their first two homers of the season as the Dodgers defeat the Giants, 6 – 2, behind the pitching of Zack Greinke. Kemp had not hit a single homer at home during an injury-plagued 2013 campaign.

Texas P Yu Darvish becomes the fastest starting pitcher to reach 500 strikeouts when he fans David DeJesus and Wil Myers in the 1st inning of a 3- 0 win against the Rays in his first start of the season. It took Yu only 401 2/3 innings to reach the total, beating Kerry Wood, who had needed 404 2/3 innings.

2014 – With the Twins’ 7 – 3 victory over the Indians, manager Ron Gardenhire picks up the 1,000th win of his career, becoming the tenth man to collect that many with one team. Still ahead of him is his mentor and predecessor, Tom Kelly, who won 1,140 for the Twins.

Ike Davis becomes the second player in franchise history to deliver a pinch-hit walk-off grand slam when he goes deep off J.J. Hoover in New York’s’ 6-3 victory over Cincinnati at Citi Field. The only other Met who accomplished the feat is the team’s current third base coach Tim Teufel, who went yard off the bench with the bases loaded in 1986 against Philadelphia.

P Masahiro Tanaka makes his much anticipated debut for the Yankees, defeating Toronto, 7 – 3, in front of dozens of Japanese journalists on hand for the occasion. CF Charlie Blackmon ties a Rockies team record by going 6 for 6 and also drives in 5 runs in a 12 – 2 win over the Diamondbacks. Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt extends his hitting streak, dating back to last season, to 26 games, but at 1-6, his team is off to the worst start in its history, tied with the expansion 1998 edition.
