2015 – Clayton Kershaw has one of his best outings as he allows only one hit and strikes out 11 in 8 innings to lead the Dodgers to a 2 – 0 win over the Cardinals. Yasiel Puig contributes an RBI double after missing 39 games to a strained hamstring.

The Biloxi Shuckers bat around in a five-run 10th inning, ending their season-long, 54-game road trip with a 6-2 victory over the Barons at Birmingham’s Regions Field. The Brewers’ Double-A affiliate, who moved from Huntsville to the Mississippi city in the offseason, had to play the first two months on the road because MGM Park, their new home, wasn’t completed at the start of the season.

2015 – Pat Venditte becomes the first ambidextrous pitcher of the 21st century when he makes his debut for the Athletics against the Red Sox. In the 7th inning, he pitches lefthanded to get Brock Holt to ground out for the first out, then switches to the right hand to allow a single to Hanley Ramirez and force Mike Napoli to ground into a double play to end the inning, then follows with a perfect 8th inning. However, the Sox’s 4 – 2 win is marred when a female fan is hit by Brett Lawrie’s broken bat in the 2nd inning and has to be wheeled away from Fenway Park on a stretcher with what are described by police as life-threatening injuries.

The Diamondbacks trade slugging OF Mark Trumbo and P Vidal Nuno to the Mariners for C Welington Castillo, P Dominic Leone and two prospects, IF Jack Reinheimer and OF Gabby Guerrero. The trade breaks a logjam in the outfield for the D-Backs, with the emergence of Cuban defector Yasmany Tomas, while they need a catcher to replace Tuffy Gosewisch who went down with a season-ending knee injury a week earlier.

Tempers flare in Miami in a game between the Marlins and the Cubs. In the 6th inning, Chicago’s Junior Lake hits a homer that cuts his team’s deficit to 6 -2, and taunts the Marlins’ bench while rounding third base; he is confronted by C J.T. Realmuto as he crosses the plate and both benches empty although no one is ejected. Giancarlo Stanton and Jeff Baker hit back-to-back homers for the second straight game for Miami, which ends up with a 7 – 3 win.

In a memorable major league debut, Rangers 3B Joey Gallo hits a two-run homer in his second at-bat on the way to collecting 3 hits and 4 RBIs in leading Texas to a 15 – 2 beating of the White Sox.

Chris Archer ties a Rays team record with 15 strikeouts in 8 innings in defeating the Angels, 6 – 1.

2015 – The Pirates win for the 9th time in 11 games thanks to help from one of their fans on the road. Playing the Giants at AT&T Park, the Bucs are up 4 – 3 in the 8th when Buster Posey lifts a fly ball towards foul territory in right field; RF Gregory Polanco goes out near the stands to attempt a catch, but, Steve Bartman-like, a fan wearing a Pirates cap and jersey reaches out and deflects the ball into the stands, accidentally hitting Polanco in the process. After a video review, umpire Doug Eddings calls Posey out on fan interference, ending the inning. Things don’t end well for the fan, though, since he is ejected for interfering with a ball in play.
