2015: Angels Rack Up Four Triples in One Inning, Trevor Bauer Endures Another Tough Spring

2015 – The Angels hit four triples in an inning in a Cactus League game against the Indians, with Erick Aybar, C.J. Cron, Johnny Giavotella and Collin Cowgill doing the damage against Trevor Bauer. The feat has not been accomplished in a regular season game since 1936, and for Bauer, it’s the second time this spring he gets featured for allowing long hits in a bunch, having previously served up three consecutive homers in an inning against the Cubs on March 10th.

2015 – Agent Scott Boras lashes out at the Cubs, convinced that they want to send the hottest prospect in baseball, 3B Kris Bryant, to the minor leagues to start the season. Boras is convinced this is simply a cost-cutting move that makes no sense if the Cubs really want to win. Fans are also clamoring to see Bryant make the team, given he’s leading all players with 6 homers in spring training games so far. However, team President Theo Epstein explains that he is concerned that Bryant needs more work on his defense before he’s ready for the Show.

Actor Will Ferrell to drum up support for cancer survivors suits up for ten different teams and takes part in five different games

2015 – Actor Will Ferrell pulls off a bizarre and hilarious stunt to drum up support for cancer survivors, as he suits up for ten different teams and takes part in five different games (all of them for both teams) during Cactus League play today. He plays all nine positions as well as designated hitter and even puts in some time as a third base coach, while being rushed from game to game. He retires the only batter he faces as a pitcher for the Dodgers, but for some reason all the teams he plays for decide to cut or trade him, once for a couple of hot dogs, after each of his brief appearances. He uses a police escort and a helicopter to ferry him from ballpark to ballpark, wearing uniform number 19 at every stop. “I’m a five-tool guy”, the comic actor explains. The strange adventure will be the subject of a television special to be broadcast on HBO during the season.

One year after placing a near-record 17 players on the disabled list, the Rangers get the news they most dreaded, as ace starter Yu Darvish will need to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the entire season and probably more.

After losing OF Michael Saunders in one of the first workouts of the spring, the Blue Jays are hit with another blow when P Marcus Stroman tears a knee ligament during fielding drills, seemingly putting him out for the season. Stroman is coming off an excellent rookie year and was counted on as the team’s third starter behind veterans R.A. Dickey and Mark Buehrle. He will make a remarkable comeback however, getting back on the mound for the Jays in September and pitching for them in their first postseason appearance in two decades.

In a Cactus League game, three of the Cubs bright young prospects give fans what they hope is a glimpse of the future when they connect for back-to-to-back-to-back homers in the 4th inning against the Indians. OF Jorge Soler starts things off with a monster shot to left field off Trevor Bauer, and two pitches later, 2B Javier Baez drives the ball to the same spot. The next man up, 3B Kris Bryant, completes the trifecta with a huge blast to the opposite field. Of the trio, Baez has the most big league experience with half a season under his belt.
