The Mets beat the Cubs, 5 – 2, to take a three games to none lead in the NLCS. Daniel Murphy homers in his fifth consecutive postseason game, tying a major league record, while Jacob deGrom overcomes a rocky 1st inning to pick up his third win of the playoffs.

The Royals demolish the Blue Jays, 14 – 2, in Game 4 of the ALCS. Things start with a bang as Kansas City scores four runs off R.A. Dickey in the top of the 1st inning and the hitting never stops, to the point that Cliff Pennington is sent to the mound for the last inning, becoming the first position player to pitch in a postseason game.

The Blue Jays return to the hitter-friendly environment of the Rogers Centre for Game 3 of the ALCS, and they score 9 runs in the first three innings against Johnny Cueto of the Royals to gain an 11 – 8 win. Troy Tulowitzki, Josh Donaldson and Ryan Goins all homer for Toronto, while Kendrys Morales replies for the Royals as part of a four-run 9th inning that makes the final score appear closer than the game was.

In Game 2 of the NLCS, the Mets get to Jake Arrieta with three 1st-inning runs, one on a double by David Wright, and two on a homer by Daniel Murphy, to win, 4 – 1, over the Cubs. Rookie Noah Syndergaard is the winner.

The Blue Jays seem to be on their way to a win in Game 2 of the ALCS, with a 3 – 0 lead over the Royals in the 7th, with David Price having retired 18 consecutive batters. But an innocuous pop-up to short right field by Ben Zobrist falls in for a single, and the Royals start a five-run rally, eventually winning, 6 – 3, to take a two games to none lead in the series.

The Mets win Game 1 of the NLCS, 4 – 2 over the Cubs, as Matt Harvey pitches into the 8th inning and Daniel Murphy and Travis d’Arnaud both homer at Citi Field.

2015 – Edinson Volquez shuts out the Blue Jays with the help of three relievers as the Royals take Game 1 of the ALCS, 5 – 0. Salvador Perez homers for Kansas City.

2015 – The Mets eliminate the Dodgers with a 3 – 2 win in Game 5 of the NLDS. Los Angeles takes a 2 – 1 lead against Jacob deGrom in the 1st, but Daniel Murphy, who had doubled in a run in the top of the 1st, steals third base by taking advantage of a defensive shift in the 4th and scores the tying run, then wins it with a solo homer off Zack Greinke in the 6th.

In a game that includes the benches clearing twice, the Blue Jays advance to the ALCS, defeating the Rangers, 6-3, in the decisive game 5. Toronto overcomes a one-run deficit, thanks to three straight errors by Texas to start the bottom of the seventh inning, followed by a three-run homer hit Jose Bautista, who irks the opponents with an exaggerated bat flip while admiring his third-deck shot at the Rogers Centre.

The Royals defeat the Astros, 7 – 2, in Game 5 of the other Division Series. Johnny Cueto retires 19 straight batters after giving up a two-run homer to Luis Valbuena in the 2nd, while the Royals take advantage of three-run innings in the 5th and 8th to win the game.
