The Indians become the first team to clinch a division title this season with a 15 – 0 win over Detroit. It’s a third straight AL Central title for the Indians.

One day after homering twice in a 3 – 0 win over the Cardinals, the Dodgers Yasiel Puig is at it again, with a three-homer game and a career-high 7 RBIs in a 17 – 4 win which puts L.A. a half game ahead of the Rockies atop the NL West standings.

2018 – A couple of pitchers take no-hit bids deep into their respective starts today. For the Rays, Blake Snell doesn’t allow the Indians a hit until the 7th until José Ramírez hits his 38th homer, a solo shot, but comes on top, 3 – 1, for his 19th win. Minnesota’s Jake Odorizzi does even better, getting through 7 1/3 inning before Greg Bird of the Yankees laces a run-scoring double. He is also a 3 – 1 winner.

2018 – With a 7 – 2 win over the Blue Jays, the Red Sox become the first team this year to clinch a postseason berth. The Sox now have 99 wins, thanks to Brock Holt’s three-run pinch homer off Ryan Tepera in the 7th, and lead the second-place Yankees by 9 games. They are assured of at least a wild card spot, but are obviously looking for more.

2018 – Jorge Lopez of the Royals pitches 8 perfect innings against the Twins before allowing first a walk to Max Kepler to lead off the 9th, then a single to Robbie Grossman. Wily Peralta then comes in to close a 4 – 1 win.

2018 – The Orioles suffer their 100th loss of the season in a 14 – 2 beatdown at the hands of the Rays. It is just the third time in team history that they reach the mark, and they are the fastest team to do so, after 141 games, since the 2003 Tigers whose 100th loss had come in their 134th game. The team record of 107 losses, set in 1988, is well within sight.

Trevor Story of the Rockies hits three homers in a 5 – 3 win over the Giants. His second long ball, off Andrew Suarez in the 4th, travels an estimated 505 feet, making it the longest homer measured since the introduction of Statcast.

On a rare play, Trea Turner of the Nationals is thrown out on a walk. He takes off for second with a full count on Bryce Harper and while the pitch is called Ball Four, C Yadier Molina of the Cardinals still throws to second. Turner is called out after a video review for overrunning the bag ever so slightly, negating the immunity he had until he reached it. Observers say that the unusual play epitomizes the Nationals’ frustrating season, which has seen them fall out of contention early after being prohibitive favorites to win a division title before the year began.

Several sources report that a severe fight breaks out between the two main members of the Tigers’ television broadcast team, Mario Impemba and Rod Allen, at the end of tonight’s game. The two have been working together for 17 years and it is not clear what caused the altercation.

2018 – The Dodgers take over first place in the NL West as Matt Kemp hits a two-run game-ending double in the 9th for a 3 – 2 win over the Diamondbacks. Kemp victimizes Archie Bradley for the second straight night, as he had hit a go-ahead three-run homer off him in the 8th inning the previous day.
