Facing Wes Ferrell in Boston, Hank Greenberg hits a long centerfield home run out of Fenway Park. It exits to the right of the flag pole and is called the longest home run ever hit at Fenway. Gee Walker has three hits to run his hitting streak to 26 straight games, but the Red Sox counter with 14 hits of their own to win, 11 – 9. Walker’s streak will end on the 24th after 27 games.

1937 – The New York Yankees buy another Babe from the Red Sox, picking up Babe Dahlgren. The California native will become the player who replaces Lou Gehrig.
1936 – As the second part of the December 10 deal for Jimmie Foxx, the Boston Red Sox get Doc Cramer and Eric McNair from the Philadelphia Athletics for Hank Johnson, Al Niemiec, and $75,000. Even with the free spending, and the presence of 20-game winners Wes Ferrell and Lefty Grove, Boston will finish 6th in 1936. However, in six-plus seasons with the Sox, Foxx will hit 222 home runs, bats .300 five times, and be an All-Star six times.

1935 – The Red Sox end a game for the second consecutive day with pitcher Wes Ferrell hitting a walk-off home run. As a pinch-hitter yesterday, his round-tripper beat the Tigers, 7 – 6, and as today’s starter, his game-ending homer earns him a 2 – 1 victory against the Browns.
On October 26, 1934, the Boston Red Sox acquire shortstop Joe Cronin from the Washington Senators for Lyn Lary and an estimated $250,000. Cronin will hit .295 with 95 RBIs in 1935, the first of his 11 seasons as a Red Sox player.
