On May 22, 1933, in a 3-0 win behind Lefty Gomez over Cleveland, Joe Sewell of the New York Yankees strikes out for the first time on the season. Sewell, the 34 year old future hall of farmer, playing in his final season, will strike out only three more times in 524 at-bats.
For the first time in major league history, brothers on opposite teams hit home runs in the same game. Boston Red Sox catcher Rick Ferrell homers off his brother Wes Ferrellin the 2nd inning, but the Cleveland Indians pitcher returns the favor as he homers in the 3rd on a pitch called by his sibling. It is the only time that the Ferrell brothers homer in the same game.
On May 16, 1933, Cecil Travis of the Washington Senators makes an incredible major league debut. Travis sets a modern day record by collecting five singles in his first five at-bats. In front of a major league record crowd of 80,184, the Indians play their first game at Lakefront Stadium, losing to Philadelphia and Lefty Grove, 1-0. Except for the 1933 season, the Tribe, who prefer League Park, will not play a full schedule at their new colossal horseshoe home until 1947, when the ballpark will become known as Cleveland Municipal Stadium.

On October 24, 1930, the Cleveland Indians release future Hall of Famer Joe Sewell. The veteran third baseman batted .289 in 1930, but provided little power, with no home runs and only 48 RBIs.
With three consecutive home runs, Earl Averill drives in eight runs in a 13 – 7 Indians victory over the Senators in the doubleheader opener. He narrowly misses a fourth when the umpire rules a long drive foul. Averill then adds another homer in the second game to set an American League record with 11 RBIs in the twin bill.
