Colorado 23 games over .500, another first in the 17-year history of the franchise.

The Rockies’ 9-2 win over Milwaukee assures the team of a wild card berth in the postseason and puts the team in position to still win the NL West by sweeping the Dodgers this weekend in L.A. Although the team was 12 games under .500 on June 3, today’s victory, their 91st – a club record – puts Colorado 23 games over .500, another first in the 17-year history of the franchise.

Rockies end Padres Season and make playoffs for first time in 12 seasons

2007 – The Colorado Rockies defeat the San Diego Padres, 9 – 8, in 13 innings to win the one-game playoff to determine the National League wild card. Matt Holliday scores the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Jamey Carroll, as ace closer Trevor Hoffman blows the 8 – 6 lead which Scott Hairston’s two-run home run in the top of the 13th had provided. The Rockies will take part in the postseason for the first time since 1995. Colorado’s 9-8 comeback victory, their 14th in their last 15 games, ends the season for the Padres, who were one strike away two games ago from clinching a postseason berth.

Troy Tulowitzki performs the 13th unassisted triple play in major league history

On April 29, 2007, Colorado rookie shortstop Troy Tulowitzki performs the 13th unassisted triple play in major league history. Tulowitzki catches a line drive off the bat of Atlanta’s Chipper Jones, steps on second to double off Kelly Johnson, and tags Edgar Renteria as he heads to second base. Tulowitzki is the second rookie to accomplish the rare feat.

Cruz, who became disguntled with manager Jimy Williams, had fashioned a 5-9 record in 109 games over two seasons in Houston. Hall returns to Arizona, where the Rule V draftee was claimed, after spring training.

1997 – Darryl Kile blanks the Rockies at Coors Field for seven innings during a 7-0 whitewash, allowing four hits. Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell blast homers for Houston. Kile would opt for Colorado and free agency after the season, despite warnings his pitching would suffer in the thin Rocky Mountain air.

Colorado, which will amass 658 tallies at Coors Field, scores its 626th, 627th and 628th runs of the season when the “Big Cat” goes deep, to surpass the 1950 Red Sox who crossed the plate 625 times.

1995 – The Colorado Rockies become the first major league team to reach the postseason before their seventh year in existence. Colorado also becomes the National League’s first wild card winner following a 10 – 9 win over the San Francisco Giants. Colorado’s .535 winning percentage (77-67 record) is the best-ever for a third-year team. The New York Yankees become the first wild card winner in the American League.

Caminiti has now hit a pair of homers, right and left-handed, in three of his last four games. He’s the only major leaguer to ever to do it three times in a month. Jody Reed has four hits and four runs for the Pads. Andres Galarraga connects for his 30th homer, giving the Rockies four players with 30+ homers. This matches the 1977 Dodgers.

Howard Johnson becomes the first free agent to sign with another team during 1993 off season

Howard Johnson, who will turn 33 at the end of the month, becomes the first free agent to sign with another team this off-season when he agrees to a one-year deal worth $2,100,000 to play for the Rockies. The switch-hitting slugger, who led the National League in homers and RBIs two years ago, has seen his production drop in recent seasons, primarily due to injuries.
