The American League continues its All-Star Game reign, winning the third event, at Cleveland’s Municipal Stadium, 4 – 1. Jimmie Foxx is the hitting star with a homer and three RBI. The rule that no pitcher can throw more than three innings unless the game goes into extra innings will be instituted after Yankee Lefty Gomez pitches six outstanding innings in the Mid-Summer Classic.

17-year-old pitcher Eiji Sawamura gives up one hit, a home run to Lou Gehrig, as the touring major league All-Stars win in Japan, 1 – 0. At one point, Sawamura strikes out four future Hall of Famers in a row: Charlie Gehringer, Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, and Gehrig. Also visiting Japan as part of the big league All-Stars, catcher Moe Berg shoots movie film showing the roofs of Tokyo. The film will allegedly be used as a guide by United States bombers during World War II.

Crowder wins his 26th and 15th straight game, one short of the American League record held by Walter Johnson, Smoky Joe Wood and Lefty Grove. Foxx finishes with 169 RBIs while teammate Al Simmons ties for 2nd with 151.
