The National League defeats the American League in the All-Star Game, 3 – 2, on an 8th inning pinch-hit home run by Jeff Conine. Conine becomes the 10th player to homer in his first All-Star at bat, and is named the game’s MVP. Frank Thomas, Craig Biggio and Mike Piazza also connect for home runs. Thomas becomes the first White Sox player ever to homer in the Mid-summer Classic as the NL out-homers the American League, 3 to 2.

1991 – Ken Oberkfell cracks a two-run double off Dave Smith in the 11th inning for a 6-4 triumph over the Cubs. A three-run shot by Luis Gonzalez off Greg Maddux stakes Houston to an early lead but George Bell tags Jim Clancy with a homer in the ninth to send it to extra innings. 

Recently released by the Angels, Fernando Valenzuela signs a minor league contract with them and will report to the Class-A Midland Angels.

On July 11, 1990  At Comiskey Park, the White Sox honor their 1917 World Championship team by donning old-fashioned uniforms and scaling concessions back to World War I prices.
