The results of theĀ Veterans CommitteeĀ voting for theĀ 2019 Hall of Fame ElectionĀ are announced: relief pitcherĀ Lee SmithĀ is a unanimous selection, and OF/DHĀ Harold BainesĀ joins him by being named on 12 of the 16 ballots.Ā Lou PiniellaĀ falls just short, with 11 votes. While Smithā€™s election had been widely anticipated, that of Baines comes as a surprise, given that he had done quite poorly in the originalĀ BBWAAĀ voting.
