The contest,,which includes third baseman Matt Williams reaching base six times, marks matchup of two rookie starters on the mound, 21 year-old right-hander Jaret Wright for Cleveland and 23 year-old southpaw Tony Saunders for Florida, making it only the sixth time in the history of the Fall Classic that two freshman hurlers have opposed one another.
1996 – In the World Series, New York Yankees pitcher David Cone holds the Braves and Bernie Williams drives in three runs in a 5 – 2 win in Game 3 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.
1995 – The Atlanta Braves take a 2 – 0 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the World Series behind the pitching of Tom Glavine. His batterymate, Javy López, decides the game with a two-run home run in the 6th inning off Dennis Martinez. Atlanta leads the Series, 2-0.
1994 – Bob Hamelin of the Kansas City Royals easily outpaces Manny Ramirez to win the American League Rookie of the Year Award. Hamelin hit .282 with 24 home runs in 101 games, the most he will play in his major league career.
