1972 – San Diego’s Steve Arlin takes a no-hitter against Philadelphia into the 9th inning before settling for a second straight two-hitter. The first hit comes when Denny Doyle hits a two-out bloop single over the head of 3B Dave Roberts, playing in for a possible bunt. During the season, Arlin will notch three two-hitters, a one-hitter, and a 10-inning one-hit stint, yet compile a 10-21 record.

1972 – The first five Astro hits in San Diego are all homers – two solo shots by Doug Rader , two-run blasts by Jim Wynn and Cesar Cedeno and a round-tripper by Lee May which ties a club record. All that does is create a 7-7 tie. Wynn doubles home Cedeno in the seventh and Houston tallies six more times for a 14-7 victory. Cedeno has three hits and four RBIs. George Culver pitches 7-1/3rd innings of relief for the win.

1971 – San Diego’s Clay Kirby allows just one hit – a wind-blown homer in the 8th by Willie McCovey – in beating the Giants, 2 – 1. Despite the loss, the Giants retain their two-game edge over the Dodgers. The Padres score their first run on a squeeze by Enzo Hernandez. For Hernandez, his bunt gives him 12 RBIs: his 12 RBIs in 549 at bats is the fewest in history by anyone with 500 or more at bats.

1974 - Dave Roberts one-hits the Phillies, 1-0, in the quickest game in club history . Bob Boone's leadoff single in the sixth is all that separates Roberts from perfection in a game that takes only one hour and 26 minutes to complete. Roberts needs just 86 pitches. Roger Metzger singles off Steve Carlton, plating Larry Milbourne in the eighth for the only tally.

1971 – In the opener of a doubleheader in San Diego, Al Santorini starts against an Astro lineup stacked with seven lefty hitters. Santorini gets the first out and is yanked for lefty Dave Roberts. Houston wins, 2-1, behind Wade Blasingame. Santorini returns to start the nightcap, tossing six innings, but Larry Dierker bests him in an 8-0 one-hitter. The lone Padre hit was a broken-bat single by Ollie Brown in the seventh. 

Braves outfielder Hank Aaron joins Babe Ruth and Willie Mays as the only major league player to hit 600 career home runs. His historic homer, a 350-foot drive over the left field wall, comes off Gaylord Perry in the third inning of a 6-5 ten-inning loss to the Giants at Atlanta’s Fulton County Stadium.
