1990 – Brian Holman of the Seattle Mariners loses his bid for the major league’s 13th perfect game with two outs in the 9th inning on Ken Phelps’ pinch-hit home run in the Mariners’ 6 – 1 victory over the Oakland Athletics. Phelp’s homer run will be the final homerun in his career. Holman will strikeout Rickey Henderson for the final out.
June 5, 1989 At the Kingdome. Kansas City Royals outfielder Bo Jackson throws out Harold Reynolds trying to score from first in the bottom of the 10th on Scott Bradley’s double Keeping the game tied 3-3. The Royals will eventually win the game 5-3.
Nolan Ryan pitches his 11th career one-hitter, beating the Mariners, 6-1. The Alvin, Texas native breaks Bob Feller’s record of 15 low-hit games, having now thrown a combination of 16 no-hit and one-hit games.
