The 2017 class of the Hall of Fame is inducted in Cooperstown, NY. Jeff Bagwell, Tim Raines and Ivan Rodriguez are the three players honored, while executives Bud Selig and John Schuerholz were voted in by the Veterans Committee. The presence of a large number of fans wearing the gear of the defunct Montréal Expos in honor of Raines cannot be missed among the crowd of 27,000 present for the ceremonies.

C Ivan Rodriguez also makes it, on his first attempt, clearing the 75% threshold by four votes. Falling just short are RP Trevor Hoffman and OF Vladimir Guerrero, who miss by 5 and 15 votes, respectively.

For the third straight year, fans turn out in droves at Stade Olympique in Montreal, QC for the first of two exhibition games by the Toronto Blue Jays against the Boston Red Sox. Over 52,000 pack the stadium to see former Montreal Expos greats Pedro Martinez and Tim Raines throw the ceremonial first pitch. Boston wins the game, 4 – 2, in 10 innings, on Ryan LaMarre’s two-out, two-run double off Pat McCoy.

Andre Dawson, an outfielder with the Expos and Cubs, becomes the 203rd player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Joining ‘Hawk’ in Cooperstown are former manager Whitey Herzog, major league ump Doug Harvey, broadcaster Jon Miller, and baseball writer Bill Madden.

Displaced mascot Youppi, working in his first game for the NHL team, and former players Gary Carter and Andre Dawson are on hand to assist in the hoisting of the blue and orange banner that features their retired numbers, 8 and 10, respectively, as well as the numbers for Tim Raines (30) and Rusty Staub (10).
