1977 – The Oakland A’s trade Ron Fairly to the Toronto Blue Jays for minor leaguer Mike Weathers and cash. The Macon, Georgia native, who played with the Montreal Expos from 1969 to 1974, will become the first major leaguer to appear with both Canadian teams.
August 13, 1976 the Toronto Franchise has a naming contest. In total, 154 people submitted the name “Blue Jays” to the contest. A draw was held to name the grand prize winner who won two season tickets for home games in 1977, plus a trip to Dunedin for one week of Spring Training.
On March 26, 1976, the American League approves the sale of the Toronto Blue Jays to the Labatts Brewing Company. Labatts agreed to buy the team for $7 million.
