On June 21, 1975, In the opener of a doubleheader, California Angels’ 21-year-old Frank Tanana strikes out 17 Rangers without a walk during a 4 – 2 win. Tanana struck out 5 straight at one point and gave up 9 hits, all singles, and strike out every batter at least once. His previous career-high was 13.

Tanana had 17 strikeouts through 8 and had a chance to tie and break his teammate Nolan Ryan’s record of 19 strikeouts in 1 game. He pitched a 1-2-3 but didn’t strike out a batter. Ryan for his part said it was good to see someone else strikeout so many batters.
