Ted Kluszewski was born on. September 10, 1924, Nicknamed “Big Klu,” he was one of the strongest players in his era. His best seasons were with the Cincinnati Reds and his best year was in 1954 when he hit .326 and led the NL in HR (49) & RBI (141), finishing runner-up (to New York Giants OF Willie Mays) for the NL MVP Award. Ted was a 4X All-Star. His uniform #18 is retired by the Reds and he is in their team Hall of Fame. In his 15-year career (1947-1961), Kluszewski had 1766 hits, 279 HR, 1028 RBI, .298 BA, .353 OBP, .498 Slg., & .850 OPS. Ted passed away in 1988 at the age of 63.
