On October 14, 2017 — The Astros take a two games to none lead in the ALCS with a 2 – 1 defeat of the Yankees in Game 2. Justin Verlander pitches a masterful complete game striking out 13 Yankees. The Astros score the winning run in the bottom of the 9th as Jose Altuve runs all the way from first base on a double to right by Carlos Correa off Aroldis Chapman. Correa had also homered in the fifth for the Astros’ only other run.
In Chicago, the White Sox top the Senators, 6 – 2. Relieving for losing pitcher Jim Shaw is future Hall of Famer Sam Rice, who will pitch only eight more times before going to the outfield for two decades. Playing RF in the game for Washington is Walter Johnson, filling in for the injured Danny Moeller.
