The Cardinals trade outfielder George Altman and pitcher Bill Wakefield to the Mets for veteran right-hander Roger Craig

On November 4, 1963 — The St. Louis Cardinals trade outfielder George Altman and pitcher Bill Wakefield to the Mets for veteran right-hander Roger Craig. Craig was the National League’s top loser the past two seasons with the lowly Mets, dropping 24 and 22 games.

Next season, the hard-luck hurler will win Game 4 of the 1964 World Series, beating the Yankees, for the World Champion Cardinals.
