On June 12 1978, The Cubs send 22 year-old rookie Ron Davis to the Yankees to complete a deal made two days ago which brought Ken Holtzman to Chicago. The trade turns out better for New York when Davis posts a 27-10 (.730) record in as a reliever during his four years in the Bronx, and the 33 year-old southpaw starter Holtzman, in his second stint in Windy City, compiles a 6-12 mark before retiring after two seasons of rejoining the team on the Northside.
Carl Yastrzemski’s 3-run homer in the first gives Boston a lead at Comiskey Park, but the White Sox eventually tie the game at 6. In the 10th inning, former Bosox pitcher Jim Willoughby serves up a home run to Fred Lynn, Lynn’s 13th, and Boston wins, 7 – 6. Bill Campbell picks up the victory.

Craig Biggio breaks Don Baylor’s record for being hit by a pitch when he is plunked for the 268th time in his career. At Coors Field, Rockies starter Byung-Hyun Kim hits the Astros’ second baseman on the left elbow in the fourth inning to establish a new mark, both literally and figuratively.

1904 – Cardinals pitcher Jack Taylor walks seven and tosses three wild pitches to help the host Pirates beat St. Louis, 5 – 2. The outcome will be viewed suspiciously because several local gamblers bet heavily on Pittsburgh before the game, but the real reason is Taylor and Jake Beckley’s late-night public drinking.

Seventeen year-old Iowa farm boy Bob Feller makes his major league debut, pitching one inning of relief against the Senators in Washington, D.C. The hard-throwing ‘kid’ allows no hits and no runs, striking out none and walking two batters. (Feller claims the box score is wrong – he claims to have struck out Buddy Lewis in his autobiography.) https://amzn.to/2Y1Kh5J
